What is Barack Obama's position on contraception?

By Linda Lowen, About.com

Question: What is Barack Obama's position on contraception?
Answer: Barack Obama supports contraception and has stated "that contraception has to be part of the education process."

In the larger context of sex education, he favors a comprehensive approach that focuses on abstinence, but also recognizes the need for age-appropriate education to reduce the risk of teen pregnancy.

Obama is an original co-sponsor of the Prevention First Act. Introduced in January 2007, it proposes a number of legislative changes intended to benefit women. These include expanding access to contraception; ending insurance discrimination against contraception, and improving awareness about emergency contraception.
