No Cake For You, Adolf Hitler - ShopRite Refuses Birthday Cake Order

By , About.com Guide   December 18, 2008

Follow me on:

I know it's a free country. But what kind of woman would name her children after a universally reviled world leader (whose name is synonymous with evil) and a well-known hate-mongering white supremacist group?

The Campbell family's odd habit of choosing controversial names came to light when mother Deborah, 25, phoned ShopRite to place a birthday cake order and was told the bakery wouldn't do it. They didn't want to spell out her son's full name in icing.

Her son is 3 years old - little Adolf Hitler Campbell.

His little sisters, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell, are just shy of 2 and 1 respectively.

The family lives in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, where it can be assumed the kids aren't yet enrolled in preschool because they'd surely have a tough time with those names.

Apparently this isn't the first time the Campbells have asked ShopRite for a questionable cake; father Heath, 35, once requested one with a swastika.

Here's the full story on the cake denial, including details on another store that did fulfill the order (although they now acknowledge that they'll be reviewing their cake decorating policy because of the incident.)

And we thought the Palin kids' names were wacky.

Postscript: I'm not the only one concerned about the cruelty of giving these kids those names. At the Faith and Reason blog at USA Today is a short article about 'living up to our names.'

The what kind of mother answer to that question is evident with the quote of her husband… “He said he was raised not to avoid people of other races but not to mix with them socially or romantically…”
