That 'John Edwards Cheating on His Wife' Thing - A Word From PunditMom

Sunday August 10, 2008
I'm so heartsick about the John Edwards news that I don't have words for it. I was going to watch his ABC Nightline interview but decided I didn't want to contribute to its ratings to hear yet another political figure detail his utter stupidity. (Gary Hart, Bill Clinton, Eliot Spitzer - the list grows ever longer to our amazement and disgust.)

So I'm deferring to a woman whose words and opinions frequently echo mine, a blogger whom I greatly respect. Here's PunditMom with "Political Rule #1 -- If You Want to be President, Keep it in Your Pants."

If I do eventually tackle this topic, it'll be from my perspective as a cancer survivor; it bothers me that he stresses it happened while his wife was supposedly in remission. So what? The vows say 'for better or worse, in sickness and in health.' Cheating is cheating, and you don't get half a cigar because you thought she was relatively 'well' at the time.

All those times his wife went to bat for him… What a way to return the favor. I’m beyond disappointed at this news.

Thanks so much for the link. I wish I had had it in me to be a bit more eloquent, but I was SO sad and disappointed. I just want to know, when are “they” ever going to learn — not necessarily to keep it in their pants, but that “they” are not invincible and not National Enquirer-proof?

There is this power and control thing so many of these high-profile men seem to have. The invincibility of it all. The OJ_Simpson-I’ll-Never-Get-Caught thing.

I found it VERY impressive that Elizabeth didn’t feel the need to stand by her man as he finally confessed. I wonder if this means she’ll break away and become a woman on a mission in her own right? By herself? Without John beside her?

Time will tell. But I considered her courageous BEFORE her husband came clean, and I call her even more so now.

Elizabeth Edwards is the true definition of a lady who deserves more than what she has received from her “husband” – to use the term loosely! My heart goes out to her. He and “that woman” deserve one another – neither has any values, let alone honesty. Bless you, Elziabeth!

Not to defend Edwards, and he will face whatever political consequences in our oh so pious and ultimately hypocritical society – but according to the reports, this was something that happened back in 2006 – which he then told his wife about – sounds like whatever happened in this marriage, was dealt and settled with by the two parties involved in the marriage. And it does seem to have survived, which is their business not ours.

Myself, I’m disappointed in Elizabeth Edwards. I’ve been a strong supporter of hers since 03. I also realize she was put in a bad position. But I also remember her standing by her man and saying he was the best man for the job, all the while hoping this matter stayed “private”. A man carrying on a affair and trying to keep it private, clearly wasn’t the best man for the job. And not that I care about anyone’s sex life, not even public servants, especially if it’s between adults. But we all know what Republicans would do with this information. It’s a sad state of our country that John McCain’s affairs both with his current wife and the all more important affair with the lobbyist are all off limits for discussion and he’s allowed to continue his public service and to continue running for the highest office in the land. And David Vitter is given a standing ovation as he returns to his job after employing the service of prostitutes, which is illegal. Republican hypocrisy abounds and this country is in the toilet because of it. Sickening.

I was hoping against hope that you would not write on what I now call it,INQUIRING MINDS and their low education level mentality, want/need to know. Christ! who cares anymore.
I just change the channel and not read anymore on this topic. This ongoing, non-stop painful reminder for Ms Elizabeth is not necessary. The media’s non-stop exploitation of this is ruthless. Personally “I Don’t Give a Da*n”.

Oops! Ms Linda, my apologies, I failed to read your article before I responded.
Good for you. I value your integrity.

Ms Linda, I am going to take the liberty and use this forum to make a comment as it relates to the Olympics. I am sick and tired and it is embarrassing to watch all the Whoop Lah, verical viens of the neck, cave mouth opening, bangi screaming, fist thumping, etc. This is a World Competition NOT Paid Sports “Entertainment”.
Where did Humility, Dignity and plain Ol’ Good Sportsmanship go? Thank You for allowing me to vent.

M.LL, you are never a bother and I always love to hear what you have to say. I can never predict your opinions – and that’s the fun of hearing you ‘observe’ or ‘vent.’

I’ve just posted a short piece on the Olympic mommies, so would you like to go and post this over there? It may catch more eyes (and more opinions) either in agreement with you, or in opposition – and you can start a good discussion there.

Believe it or not, I’m sitting in a car driving several hours to an airport where I’ll be flying to Hawaii on vacation – so I have to be brief as it’s my turn to drive. Let’s hope that wireless broadband works on the islands, and I’ll get back to you on all your thoughts – Olympic facial expressions, John Edwards, and much more.

In the meantime, you have my deepest appreciation for always keeping things lively and fun.

Thanks, it is always nice to get a compliment now and again. Have a fun time in Hawaii.
