Ayn Rand would have hated the idea of chick lit - light fiction, often irreverent in tone, written for and marketed to women.

No unbearable lightness of fiction here. Rand’s classic Atlas Shrugged, published in 1957, is a doorstop of a novel coming in at over one thousand pages. In it Rand promotes objectivism, her philosophy of rational self-interest. Over the years the claim has circulated that Atlas Shrugged is the second most influential book in America after the Bible.

October kicks off several events commemorating the 50th anniversary of Atlas Shrugged. Supposedly Alan Greenspan is a fan, along with Hillary Clinton.
