Value of Work
- My mother taught me that work is an important part of life. From an early age, I was shown how to cook and iron and clean. She never pampered me, and when I became a wife and mother, she didn't come riding to the rescue to help me out. She gave me love and support, but I had to row my own boat. My mom never complained about any job that she had to do. She's gone now, but my dad is still alive. Last night I stood at the sink in my mom's kitchen, scraping the dishes from the dinner I had made for my dad. "Don't work so hard," he said, and I replied, "It won't take me any time to do this little dab of dishes," and I swear I was channeling my mother. I've heard her say those exact words a thousand times.
