What was your mother's greatest gift to you? The term 'gift' can be interpreted loosely. Sometimes a gift can be a bit of life-changing advice, a deed or action that helped or made a difference, or a tangible good that had great meaning. Tell your story here and honor your mother's gift by sharing it with the world. Share Your Story

Value of Work

My mother taught me that work is an important part of life. From an early age, I was shown how to cook and iron and clean. She never pampered me, and when I became a wife and mother, she didn't come riding to the rescue to help me out. She gave me love and support, but I had to row my own boat. My mom never complained about any job that she had to do. She's gone now, but my dad is still alive. Last night I stood at the sink in my mom's kitchen, scraping the dishes from the dinner I had made for my dad. "Don't work so hard," he said, and I replied, "It won't take me any time to do this little dab of dishes," and I swear I was channeling my mother. I've heard her say those exact words a thousand times.
