Readers Respond: Would You 'Stand By Your Man'? Why Do We Criticize Women Who Do?

Would you 'stand by your man' if you caught your husband cheating? When political wives stand by their husbands at news conferences, many of us criticize them for not kicking him out. But can you understand their reasons? What would you do differently in a similar situation and why? What's Your Opinion?

Yes I would

I would stand by man and it has nothing to do with wealth and everything to do with family. I was taught to fight for my family and that vows mean something. But I know a lot of people don't think like that. I was raised to understand that men slip occasionally, but that family means more than that.

I wouldn't do it

I wouldn't stand by my man. But I'm financially independent and can make it on my own income regardless of my partner's earnings. I never gave up anything for anyone as many wives of politicians have done. If I had limited career choices, children to raise, and was dependent on my husband, maybe I'd think differently. Sure, I've criticized the women I see on TV who obviously don't want to be there with their sleazy husbands. But at what point do you sell your soul to be able to live a certain kind of life? If I've been angered by these political wives, it's because I didn't see them as willing to sacrifice their lifestyles. Maybe I'm wrong. But it takes a certain type of woman to marry a man who's interested in a life in politics. She's gotta realize that she's never going to be first in his life, and that she's putting her own life and career on hold, or giving up on them. Few women can pull a Hillary Clinton, make something of themselves, and leave their husbands behind.

Stand by your man

Many women have stood by their men in the midst of the most humiliating controversial infidelities. Each of these women have done it for different reasons unique from each other. For instance, I guess Hillary stood by Bill because she has a dream to run for the presidency which she tried last year. I believe some women stand by their husbands because they know that love is a game and you can lose your husband to any woman at any time. At least if you stand with him and show him that you truly love him....
