What's the name of your blog?
Your (Wo)Man in Washington
What's the homepage of your blog?
www.womaninwashington.org
Is your blog associated with a larger site? What is it?
Yes, www.motherscenter.org, of the National Association of Mothers' Centers
Why did you start your blog?
To educate women, mothers, and other family caregivers about the intersection between public policy and carework. Raising children, caring for our ill or elderly parents, looking after a spouse with a serious medical problem - we will likely do one or all of these things in the course of our lifetime. We need paid sick days, flexible workplace policies, affordable, accessible child care, support for stay at home mothers and fathers, and a system that really values the work of caring for each other. Mothers will be poorer, economic costs higher, and society as a whole will continue to suffer until we do.
What do you cover in your blog?
I write about work/family policy, the economics of family carework, pay equity, early childhood education, the "soft" economy, maternal economics, feminism, women in politics, legislative action in the US Congress, maternal and infant welfare,
Advice
- Anyone can be politically aware and politically active with today's technology. Be informed about how your life and that of your family is affected by legislation and the work of the US Congress. Motherhood isn't rocket science - it's harder, especially iin this country. We can change that!
