What is a trigger food?

From Erica Horowitz, for About.com

Question: What is a trigger food?
Answer: A trigger food can be described as any food that, when eaten, makes one crave more of either that particular food or just food in general. This often leads to a binge - a period of uncontrolled and compulsive overeating.

For some, chocolate or anything sugary will set off this reaction, while salty foods will do it for others. Appearance, texture, and of course taste all factor into what types of food are triggers for different people.

Anyone can have a trigger food, but the term primarily pertains to those with Binge Eating Disorder.
