How many generations does it take to produce the Army's first female four-star general? For Ann Dunwoody's family, it's one more than the stars on her uniform.

Talk about limited opportunities for advancement. The Army, by law, cannot have more than 11 active-duty four-star generals, including the Army chief of staff. Yet after 33 years of service, Ann E. Dunwoody was named the first US female four-star general. Nominated by President Bush in June to head up the Army Materiel Command, a massive operation that essentially equips the Army, she took over the position in November.
