Women, Power, Sex, and Shame

By May 19, 2014

Follow me on:

We are covering a lot of ground this week in Women's Issues at About.com. First, we are taking a look at the ongoing struggle to #BringBackOurGirls that is happening in Nigeria. Although some girls have escaped, hundreds remain captive. What can the Nigerian government and the international community  do about this tragedy? And how can terrorist group Boko Haram be stopped?

Women in the media have also been a big part of recent news. We cover the return of Monica Lewinsky, Barbara Walter's career and retirement, and the abrupt firing of the first woman executive editor of the The New York Times, Jill Abramson.

Lastly, Women's Issues takes a look at the recent careers of adult film actresses Belle Knox and Asa Akira and ponder whether or not porn and sex work more generally can be empowering.

Happy reading!
