Obama and the 'Mom Jeans' Putdown

In a country that's facing a health care crisis (and a fight in Congress over how to fix it); a slow economy with thousands still losing their jobs; a Supreme Court confirmation hearing that subjects a qualified woman to sexism and racism; and an ongoing war overseas, why do we care what President Obama wears to throw out the first pitch at a baseball game?
And when his attire includes baggy high-waisted jeans, why is he mocked for wearing "mom jeans"? Since when did it become an acceptable put-down to make fun of mothers in this way?
No wonder Sarah Palin's 'down-home' style was so warmly embraced by a large portion of the country (until she started going nuts at Nieman Marcus.) Whether it's good, bad, or irrelevant, a large number of women shop at big box chain store retailers.
And when fashion dictates come down from snarky sources such as New York magazine, it makes the rest of the country -- and those of us more interested in politics than glad rags -- seethe.
Yeah, busy moms may not wear the most stylish and expensive of jeans. So what?

Lighten up princess. George Bush was running a real war and you people never took a break from mocking him. This president is actually causing the problems. It’s fair to make fun of him for the pants, oh, and for throwing like a girl.
Right on Susan.
It’s amazing to watch the lefties fall on the floor and throw fits over the EXACT type of comments that were heaped upon President Bush on a daily basis.
Linda does not once complain about the fact that the media is harassing Obama. She is insulted because they seem to have a problem with “mom jeans.” Linda (assuming you are a mom), it’s okay for you to wear mom jeans because you are a mom. Obama is not a mom, ergo he shouldn’t be wearing said jeans. The media isn’t upset at moms for wearing mom jeans, just at Obama for wearing them. Get it?
