New White House Council on Women - Did Michelle Have a Say?

Today, Michelle Obama is flexing not her arms but her muscle as the country's most visible example of a professional woman seeking an appropriate work/life balance.

She'll be taking part in two significant women's issues-related events scheduled - her observance of International Women's Day (which was March 8th) and her appearance at the signing event that will launch her husband's new White House Council on Women and Girls.

Chicago Sun-Times Washington Bureau Chief Lynn Sweet writes:

For the First Lady, Wednesday is about displaying her feminist credentials.

First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden will attend the signing event at the White House, pegged to National Women's History Month.

Earlier on Wednesday, according to the White House, "Mrs. Obama will celebrate International Women's Day with a visit to the State Department where she will join Secretary Hillary Clinton in presenting the Secretary of State's Award for International Women of Courage."

According to the White House, when Obama signs the executive order at the White House event, the audience will include "national women's organizations and community groups, professional women, and a bipartisan group of congressional leaders."

Though nobody's saying anything yet, don't you just have to wonder if Michelle Obama had a hand in what her husband is launching today? Even the briefest of peeks at her bio would suggest that she has intimate knowledge of the challenges women face at home, in the workplace, and in society.

They used to call this sort of thing 'pillow talk,' but did Michelle put a bug in her husband's ear as a working woman who's been there, done that, and would like help ease the way for the millions of working mothers in this country who struggle with the daily juggle?
