Frugal Friday - How Much Will That Road Trip Cost Me?

Friday February 13, 2009
Gas prices are rising. Many school-aged kids have next week off due to Winter Break. Road trip, anyone? For families considering a day trip or a couple of days off from work to travel by car to near (and not so near) destinations, that rising price of gas is cause for concern. How much will the trip cost me?

If you go to Mapquest and key in your information to get driving directions, you can now find out. They've added a nifty little feature that enables you to calculate the cost of that trip (based on their exact directions) when you type in your vehicle's MPG. I checked out Google, and they don't seem to offer that option. So if knowing in advance what the driving costs are is important to you, Mapquest is the way to go

There’s another new site called Cost2Drive.com (www.costtodrive.com) that provides the cost of driving based on the price of gas at your starting point and at refueling points along the way. It also tells you if its cheaper to fly, as well as the carbon footprint of the trip.
