Who Brutally Beat the TV Anchor?

Sunday October 26, 2008
Most women will likely shudder at the story of Anne Pressly, a 26-year-old Little Rock woman who was found savagely beaten in her home early Monday morning.

But those who work in the media may feel a deeper chill. Pressly was the morning anchor at KATV. Is it significant that the perpetrator focused the beating on her face and upper body? Nearly every bone in her face was broken. Her injuries resulted in massive brain swelling and left her unable to speak. Sedated and in the hospital, Pressly died yesterday from her injuries. Did this happen because of her job?

I've worked in radio and television in the past, and know several female colleagues who've been stalked. When women work in the public eye, the threat of stalking is ever present. And in the early stages, it can be difficult to ascertain the difference between someone who's a zealous fan and one who is a dangerous threat.

The horror stories of the murder of Rebecca Schaeffer, the stabbing of Theresa Saldana, and the obsession John Hinckley had for Jodie Foster are well known. They're cautionary tales we keep in the back of our minds.

As the investigation into the Pressly case continues, we'll know whether or not there's a connection between her death and her life in the public eye. Her father disagrees with investigators who believe the attack was random. He told ABC's Good Morning America:

Why would anybody vandalize and brutalize somebody to this extent? There are items missing from the home. Little Rock police department are classifying this as a burglary and an attack, but again, the severity of the injuries and brutality of the attack in my own mind calls into question the motives. What were the true motives in this case?"
I'm inclined to agree. My heart goes out to her father and the rest of her family.

A sad postscript to this tale: Pressly was found by her mother, who lives in South Carolina but was visiting Little Rock during the debut of the Oliver Stone film W., in which Pressly had a small role.

My heart goes out to the family. News like this are far too common. I hope
justice will catch up with the
perpetrator.

The cycle of violence continues. Why won’t we evolve as a species?

my first impression was that the attack was somehow triggered by her role in the movie W . no way to tell that or the opposite, but i agree with her father, i do believe he is nailing it when he notes that the brutality of the attack. also its focus on her face and upper torso makes one wonder if the attacker(s) was punishing the media anchor for doing something he-or she, or they(?)- disagree with. most likely anne did not have chance to see the attacker(s), or recognize him/her for that matter, but whoever did this, will be caught. god bless anne and her family.

I have never heard of Anne Presley untill now. I’m very saddened of what has happened to this young, beautiful, sweet young woman. I can’t believe anyone could do something like this! I pray for the family, and for the police to catch whoever has done this horrific act.

I wouldn’t rule out it being a robbery gone very bad. Women are attacked like this more than I would like to think. Some people out there have a lot of anger and hatred in them and just take it out on a random victim, without necessarily knowing them personally.

I really hope whover did this is off the streets SOON.

I happen to believe that Ann Coulter hired someone to hurt this woman for portraying her in a movie. Ann Coulter is a very scary mean person, and many would not put it past her to do something of this ramification…

My thoughts and prayers are with this family. I agree - it appears that the perpetrator, knew his victim and this was not a random choice of harm.

Mindy,

You are truly grasping at straws here, and I hope you find it in yourself to stop blaming others because of your own fears, paranoia and opinions.

What you said here can subject you to slander and defamation of character - in a heartbeat

The facts of the case will come to light, as they always do, especially since Anne’s credit card was used, and they have a suspect who will be found by viewer’s of America’s Most Wanted.

More than likely, Anne’s attacker knew she had money, and needed to get a drug fix.

That’s how I see it.

I just heard about this terrible tragedy against Ms. Pressly. It makes no sense why someone would go to this extreme in a robbery, if this was the real motive. I didn’t know Anne not do I know her family but my heart goes out to her family. My prayers are with you and hope this animal is found and brought to justice. God bless the family and give them comfort.

I never knew Ann Pressly, neither have I seen her in movies or on tv. But the news of her brutal death shocks the living daylight out of me. Just as her father said, there are surely strings attached to such venomous beating unleashed on a lady than just a robbery gone bad. The stalking act on public figures is becoming alarming, especially when it gets so violent to the point they are brutally assaulted, maimed and even murdered. I believe these public figures should particularly watch what they say on air; especially when they mimic or play the role of a real character. Also, since these people know they are being watched by millions, its not superfluous to have a reasonable measure of security around them. I hope these villains and murderers are swept off the streets, so that our tv and radio practitioners would not start appearing and talking on air in fear.
My sincere condolence to Anne’s family. God will replenish their loss and someday soon, throw a beautiful smile on their faces…

THey finally cought the low life piece of **** scum of the earth. I wish they would bring back torturing and public hanging for this sorry dirt bag. I would love to sit and watch him die a slow miserable painful death. They should start by jerking his fingernails out one at a time then his toenails. Then they should tie him to a post and let some wild hogs have at himbut make sure they can only reach knee high, Then build a fire under his ass and finish him off. He deserves no less.
