What, Me Feminist? In NBC Interview, Palin Avoids That 'Label' Now

Friday October 24, 2008
Apparently Sarah Palin just discovered that 'feminist' is a dirty word, because she told NBC's Brian Williams that she wasn't going to label herself. This is a 180 degree turn from what she said to Katie Couric last month. Why the change of heart?

Does her avoidance of the term indicate that she's also turning her back on Feminists for Life, a group she previously stated she's a member of? Although FFL is nonpartisan and cannot support candidates, as evidenced by the remarks of FFL President Serrin Foster they were clearly delighted by her emergence on the national political stage:

"Of course there is a certain excitement about...the selection of a pro-life feminist as the Vice Presidential nominee....Feminists for Life is dedicated to systematically eliminating the root causes that drive women to abortion - primarily lack of practical resources and support - through holistic, woman-centered solutions. We recognize that abortion is a reflection that our society has failed to meet the needs of women and that too often women have settled for less. Women deserve better than abortion," said Foster.
Since the Palin selection, there's been a tug-of-war over the term feminist and whether or not she is one. Looks like Sarah answered the question herself. She may have identified herself as one earlier, but now that Election Day is close (and that word might be off-putting to conservative voters), she won't take on that 'label' anymore.

“As a cold political calculation, I could not be more pleased. She has excited and energized our base. She is a direct counterpoint to the liberal feminist agenda for America. She has a wonderful family. She’s a reformer. She’s a conservative. She’s the best thing that could have happened to my campaign and to America…”

Ok folks, conservatives are feminist and not sure why this is not recognized? I still believe it is NOT the GOVERNMENTS place to dictate what a women chooses.
Pro Life, Pro Choice, Whaaaaaaaaat. Still not anyone’s place to dictate.
Webster’s simple definition, social, ecomomic and political equality, period. I believe this applies not only to women, but all ethnic groups to include men.
The word “feminism” has taken on a meaning of it’s own by those that want it to mean what they want it to mean, period.
I have made this point before.

One of the rocket scientists driving the GOP bus realized that the future Czarina of Amerika needed explaining to.. Her Eminence was told that pregnant feminists often times take responsibility for decisions re: their own bodies-the far right in the party might look askance at anyone who believes in a woman’s right’s as they pertain to her own body when pregnant.Feminist bad, feminism bad.Votes could be lost.Presto,change-o.
