The Woman Who Raised Barack Obama

Wednesday October 22, 2008
Most of us know her as Obama's grandmother. But she had a rich and full life as one of the most prominent women in banking in the state of Hawaii in the '60s and '70s. She was a trailblazer in a male-dominated field, a tough no-nonsense person whose stern exterior hid a nurturing heart.

A woman who married young, she watched her own daughter do the very same thing, and ended up raising her grandson for much of his teenage years.

Madelyn Payne Dunham is so important to Barack Obama that he's taking Thursday and Friday off from his campaign to be with her. She's seriously ill following a hip injury, and KITV.com reports that she may also be facing a recurrence of cancer.

The story of Madelyn Dunham's life may shed light on the Kansas roots of Barack Obama, and explain where his steadiness and calm resolve come from. Let's hope he brings her comfort, strength, and healing during his visit with her in Honolulu tomorrow.

There were two, places Obama was raised that’s what, I am looking for. One, was Hawaii I am looking for the other for a school project.
