What 'Unethical Activity'? Palin Says Troopergate Report 'Cleared' Her

Tuesday October 14, 2008
Sarah Palin was not being entirely honest about the findings of the Troopergate report when she told Alaska reporters in a phone interview that she appreciated "being cleared of any legal wrongdoing or unethical activity at all."

On ABC's Good Morning America yesterday, Jake Tapper looks at how Palin is able to ignore that the report finds her guilty of ethics violations; it all comes down to her 'parsing' of the report. (Ironic how she follows in the footsteps of another famous parsing politician, the husband of the candidate who created 18 million cracks in the highest, hardest glass ceiling that Palin still hopes to crash through.)

An editorial in yesterday's Washington Post entitled "Alaska's Family Feud" notes that the report "shows her and her husband pursuing a personal vendetta" and adds, "It's unfortunate that Ms. Palin does not understand -- or chooses not to acknowledge -- the seriousness of the mess she helped create."

My colleage Deborah White of US Liberal Politics, in discussing the report, asks, " How did Gov. Palin react? With an apology? With transparency and contrition? With a statement about lessons learned? Sadly, none of the above." She writes that Troopergate - along with Palin's recent attempts to whip up a mob mentality against Obama - have proven that the McCain campaign has been hurt by selecting Sarah Palin for the GOP ticket..

Well….she has proven to me once again that I CAN and SHOULD trust my intuition and instincts…because they both told me she was an opportunist and would be nothing but trouble the second I laid eyes on her and she spoke. She doesn’t seem to live in the REAL world!!!
I’m gratified to know that I can indeed trust my first impressions.
She’s not the kind of human being I would want our young girls to model themselves after and I sincerely hope she fades into oblivion and is never heard from on a national level again.

Blissful………exactly why would we want our daughter’s role model to be someone who is a christian and has morals and standards. Someone who is willing to take the responsiblity of caring for a child with special needs instead of just doing away with it. A real person with real integrity. Not a role model for our children at all.

Beth, when you go beyond the headlines and ask, “Who makes up the Alaska Personnel Board? Who appoints them?” a quick little Google search reveals the following information, graciously provided by the Alaska Department of Administration, Personnel and Labor Relations:

“The Personnel Board…is an independent agency composed of members appointed by the Governor. The Board hears complaints of Ethics Act (AS 39.52) violations brought against Executive Branch employees….”

If you’d bother to look deeper, you’d find what many of us remember – Palin filed this complaint against herself earlier this year. As the Public Record, a website focused on independent reporting states:

“The personnel board investigation was launched after Palin filed an ethics complaint against herself in September that was meant to fend off a legislative inquiry into Monegan’s dismissal.”

Beth, you seem content to just look at the headlines and read the results you want to see; you ignore the reality of what is actually being reported.

This is the greatest threat facing us as a nation – that consumers of news only look to the news that satisfies their pre-existing assumptions.

I can see from your comments that you feel Palin was vindicated, but that’s not the case. The report was released by a panel that was appointed by the Governor – a panel that Palin herself filed a complaint with to counter any other findings. Personally, I’d sooner believe the findings of the bipartisan Alaska Legislature-appointed investigator than a panel appointed by the Governor herself.

Please look deeper into the issues in this election. You shortchange yourself when you don’t take the time to do your own research, and instead allow media to spoonfeed you only what you want to consume.
