Here Comes the Sun - McCain, Palin Differ on Tanning and Sun Exposure

Wednesday September 17, 2008
I find it ironic that John McCain and Sarah Palin are on opposite ends of the sunlight spectrum. Literally.

McCain, who has previously been treated for skin cancer, wears SPF 30 along with a long-sleeve shirt and a hat in the sun.

Palin apparently likes the golden glow tanning brings. She had a tanning bed installed in the governor's mansion according to the LA Times.

I guess when the two of them are out on the campaign trail, when he's standing right next to her she'll never appear Palin comparison.

I heard an analysis of why Palin has a tanning bed in Alaska—it is to counteract
depression.

If she suffers from SAD (seasonal affective disorder), a tanning bed is not the recommended way to treat the disorder.

The American Academy of Family Physicians warns “Tanning beds shouldn’t be used to treat SAD. The light sources in tanning beds are high in ultraviolet (UV) rays, which harm your eyes and your skin.”

And from Cigna.com: “Light therapy is treatment with a special type of light that is much brighter than a lamp or other light fixture in your home. The most common form of this therapy is done with a light box that contains fluorescent—not ultraviolet or full-spectrum— lights.

To use light therapy, you sit at a prescribed distance from the light box. The amount of exposure you need depends on the intensity of light you use and could range anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours. The intensity of light usually ranges between 2,500 and 10,000 lux (10,000 lux is about 20 times as bright as normal indoor lighting).

Most light therapy is prescribed at 10,000 lux for about 30 to 60 minutes in the early morning.”

Some people self-treat their ‘depression’ with a trip to the tanning parlor, but medical professionals don’t prescribe tanning beds in place of therapy lights.

As for the issue of depression itself…if you’ll remember, in 1972 presidential candidate George McGovern chose Thomas Eagleton to be his running mate, but Eagleton had to step down after it was revealed he had been treated for depression.

Did I say it or what. If you do Not like the candidate, nothing positive is said. We believe what we want to believe or not.
Thanks for the education lesson, ultraviolet rays, UV. Because don’t you know this is the most important information we all need to know about Ms Palin.
I guess if “they” keep digging, something just might come up, Roses anyone!!

Oh GREAT! Just what we need in the White House….someone with a depressive disorder that causes mood swings and irrationality!!!
Just ONE MORE REASON why she is the wrong person to have just a heartbeat away from the presidency!
