Does Oprah Have to Have Sarah Palin - or Another Republican - on Her Show?

Monday September 8, 2008
Oprah Winfrey has said she'd love to have to Sarah Palin on her show - after the election, not before it. She's had Barack Obama on the show, but that was before he'd announced his candidacy and before she threw her support to him.

A friend who knew I'd once worked in television asked me, "Doesn't she have to have Palin or another Republican on? Isn't there something about candidates getting equal time?"

My colleague, Kathy Gill of US Politics, explains what the requirements are in "Conservatives Criticize Oprah Refusal To Interview Palin." She also has links to the article about Oprah's refusal if you're not aware of the backstory that triggered this latest debate.

And no, Oprah doesn't have to have Palin or another Republican on her show because Obama was a guest before he announced his presidential run. And for the record, she never had Hillary Clinton on during her campaign.

Kathy also has a poll asking "Should Oprah Winfrey invite Sarah Palin to appear on her show?"

Whatever…Power and Money means that Oprah can do what she wants. She is bias and racist, but you can’t say that about her in public…oh no…not a about a successful black woman. Maybe Obama will have her for dinner sometime and they can talk about how they love taking everyones money.

Oprah is such a racist. If I were Palin, I wouldn’t bother with such a “fluff” show. I’m a FREE WOMAN too, Oprah, free to not watch your show, free not to read your book of advertisements (called a “magazine”), free to not spend one dime ever again on anything you endorse.

Why should she have Palin on!! When the woman gets to be President, then Oprah can consider! Meanwhile, it’s her show and she can do what she wants for Christ sake!!

Remember…Obama is her candidate and why should she push for the other side!! It doesn’t take brains to figure that out people.

Obama was on ages ago…she asked him to announce if he was going to run for ticket on her show if he decided to..he said if he did and announced on tv it would be her show..he didn’t- he did it online remember?? And no she doesn’t have to have anyone she doesn’t want on her show..that’s whyits her show for heaven’s sake..just like palin could refuse to be on it; we still have a free country at least until we elect someone like mccain and especially palin who wants to tell us all how to live, breed, kill and think (and eventually read perhaps?)

Palin has still not had a one-to-one interview with anyone because she knows that her views on many of the issues are hot potatoes.Oprah has a policy which she has not violated for her shows. Obama was there before the candidacy.

Palin goes only to meetings with adoring Republican crowds and enjoys the inspired applause. She is green in many respects and we need a wise head on the shoulders of our Veep who may have to bear the responsibilities of President, if a contingency arises.

(9) Chris says:

Tons of white people have endorsed white presidential candidates in U.S. political history, yet people never branded them as racist (even though some of them likely were). But the minute a black person publicly endorses a black or other non-white candidate, oh my, the reaction is “how could she?!” Oprah had Obama on before he declared or decided to run for the presidency. She has a right not to have on any of the candidates (including Obama since he declared) if she wants to. Racism is alive and well in this country, and it is often perpetuated by people who deny it exists.

Just have to comment. Celia, Rizzo, I agree.
Who is she kidding, I believe that she knew that he would be running and took the opportunity to introduce him to her millions of viewers. When she endorsed him, it was for no other reason than he is Black. She just pi**ed off a lot of her viewers from what I read or head.
If you like him, everything is okay and if not, nothing he or others say means anything. So vote McCain 2008. Palin is another thing. Talk on her later.

Hey, but I will watch her show when she has Cher, Tina Turner, Celine Dion and then turn the TV off.
Yep, it’s her show and she can do as she da*n well pleases. So who cares, I don’t.

Oprah & others (Dems) already afraid of that Mc n Palin advancing fast en route for Whitehouse and that’s why she is not engrossed to have Palin on the show, as it will help boost further the Rep. Chances.

The [grave blunder] Obama committed is that he did not picked up Hillary as his VP and deep inside him and his associates would have already been started realizing it but it is too late now.

Oprah needs to be the entertainer not the politician. Have Sarah Palin on the show.

I have been a loyal fan of Oprah for many years but this situation with Sarah Palin has drawn my final straw. I had always admired Oprah for her well rounded view and unbiased interviews ect. She doesnt have to have Sarah Palin on her show to discuss politics, infact most people I talk to really want to know who she is as a person first, politics last. She could do that interview and never come close to a political issue. It causes me to question what is there to loose by having Ms Palin on her show?? Perhaps she thinks she would be spliting her loyality to Obamma. Which would be hard to believe since shes gone so far out of her way to stand clear about her view, endorsing and support of him. Personally I think she shouldnt have put herself out there like she did, but Oprah does what Oprah wants, and obviously at the cost of her audience she doesnt care.
Funny how the true colors of a person can be revealed when the rubber hits the road.
Bye bye Oprah, you just destroyed my immpression of who and what you are.

Is there one OUNCE of indication that the McCain campaign wants to have Palin on such a show? The campaign has made clear they’ll hand-pick who will interview Palin. I doubt they’d agree to Oprah interviewing her, if Oprah wanted to.

Oprah didnt invite Clinton on her show, so she’d never invite Palin on before the election. She seems very generous to the Black communities only, is she a racist?

Thanks,
