Pregnant Man Discharged From Hospital After Birth of His Daughter
Thursday July 3, 2008
Thomas Beatie, better known as the Pregnant Man, gave birth to a baby girl this past Sunday. He has left the hospital and is resting at home with his infant daughter, ABC News reported an hour ago.
Beatie was born female but legally changed his gender to male after undergoing hormone treatment and surgery to remove his breasts. He and his wife Nancy lived quietly in a small town in Oregon, and neighbors were unaware that he was a trangender male until he announced his pregnancy and subsequently appeared on Oprah to share his unique story.

The interesting thing that I find in this whole story is the media frenzy of the headline “Pregnant Man gives Birth.” Now, to risk comments and criticism from the GL&T community on identity and semantics… this is kind of a biological shell game. Regardless of the status of him legally, surgically and hormonally… at the core genetically he is XX not XY… So, it is no earth-shattering accomplishment here. Socially maybe… especially here in our wonderfully hyped and yet closed-minded America…
The real star in the East moment would be for a genetically XY Male to carry a child… Now that’s entertainment!
