According to the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP) at Rutgers University, 2008 is a banner year:
With Jackie Speier (D-CA) winning a special election for the U.S. House, and with five new women filling state legislative seats, the numbers of women in Congress and state legislatures are at new all-time highs.
CAWP has put together an excellent fact sheet on women in elective office in 2008. Anyone looking for information on women officeholders should visit and bookmark their site.
