A Father's Lament - NPR Host Peter Sagal on Horton Hears a Who

Sunday April 6, 2008
NPR host Peter Sagal has a beef with the movie Horton Hears a Who. As the father of three daughters, he wonders why girls never get to be heroines and save the world. And he's mad at Horton because the filmmakers added a subplot that involves a father slighting his 96 daughters to focus attention on his only son.

I can't do his commentary justice by describing it here. So I want you to go and hear it yourself. Especially the ending, which serves as a poignant reminder that it's not enough to teach our daughters to speak out if nobody's there to listen.
