The Pregnant Man & the Wife Who Loves Him

Wednesday March 26, 2008
Imagine you're half of a married couple ready to start a family. But the problem is you've had a hysterectomy and can't have a child. Now imagine that there was an opportunity for your husband to become pregnant, carry the baby and give birth.

This choice might mean you both would be rejected by family, some friends, and possibly members of the medical community who would want nothing to do with the pregnancy or birth. It would certainly cause strange looks at the grocery store and other public places.

But you both want a child so badly and that opportunity is there, staring you in the face.

Would he do it? Would you?

This isn't a hypothetical question for one couple in Oregon.

Thomas is six months pregnant, and Nancy, his wife, is supportive and overjoyed.

How is this possible? And what are the reactions of people around them?

The answers touch upon acceptance, fear, rejection, gender identity, and whether or not wanting to have a biological child is a female desire or a human desire.

Once you read the story of Thomas and Nancy, you will not soon forget what they gained - and lost - in coming to their mutual decision.

Me who’s not religious let alone a religious freak see this as a sign that the end of days are near! Our society is obsessed w/ children and convince ourselves that just because something is desired it should be done.

I don’t find anything loving about this story quite frankly I find the couple disgusting and gross and the fact that they will bring another freak of nature into this world appalling!

So let me understand this, you thought that God made a mistake by making you a girl, so you had an operation to turn yourself into a boy right? Since you and your wife have not been able to conceive, you thought it was okay for you to have the baby just because you still have girl parts? Which is it, are you a man or a woman, last I checked real men don’t have babies. Just because something is possible doesn’t make it right. Why don’t you think we haven’t seen or heard of this before? I’m sure its not because it can’t be done, it’s because it’s not right for the child. If you want to mess with you own life that’s one thing, but to bring a child into this circus is another thing altogether. You of all people should know how the child will feel, and yet it continues to be all about you. The child will be talked about, pointed at, laughed at, etc., the media will hound them all the days of their lives because of the decision that you have made. It makes me very sad because I can already see the writing on the wall for this child.
