Ask Him Out Anyway, Even Though it's Not Sadie Hawkins Day
And I believed it all these years, until yesterday .
Sadie Hawkins was a character created by Al Capp in the comic strip Li'l Abner. Poor Sadie was described as "the homeliest gal in the hills" and because she couldn't get a date, her father, a prominent citizen in the town of Dogpatch, named a day after her so she could go and get herself a man. On Sadie Hawkins Day, a footrace was held so the women could pursue the town's eligible bachelors.
I was all set to write about today being Sadie Hawkins Day but when I checked into it, the Li'l Abner website sets the record straight - Sadie Hawkins Day is an unspecified date in November which Al Capp observed in his comic strip for four decades.
Many people still believe that today is Sadie Hawkins Day, so if it helps you get up the courage to ask that special someone out, pretend like I didn't tell you. I won't say anything.

I completely agree that women should ask men out! Some of the best available men out there happen to be on the shy side, despite the fact that they may be very accomplished and charming. Some men don’t want to intrude on a woman’s space, even when they find her attractive, and the rest just freeze. What’s a woman to do? Make the first move herself! I did this and collected the true stories of 110 women who also initiated contact with guys they wanted to meet. The result is that each of these women is now married to guys too shy to approach them simply because they did something! I am, too. Several of their stories are available for free at my website: http://www.grabyourtiger.com. So if you are double thinking whether you should walk over to that cutie and say Hi, let these true success stories inpsire you. Every day is a good day to make a first move. Never let the chance for love pass you by again. Go for it, ladies!
