For Voter Turnout, Gender Matters: More Women Vote Than Men
Just this once, let's celebrate the fact that women - who already vote in larger numbers and percentages than men - are breaking records at the polls in terms of attendance. Let's celebrate the fact that our participation is making the Democratic presidential race perhaps the most exciting in history.
According to Women's eNews, female Democrats are dominating primary voting. . EMILY's List, the Washington, D.C.-based political action committee, conducted a gender analysis of Super Tuesday voting patterns and compiled a chart indicating how women and men voted for the two Democratic presidential candidates in each state, and the size of the gender gap.
I'm personally delighted to see how passionate and vocal women have become about this year's presidential election, as it bucks the long-standing belief that it's not polite for a well-bred woman to discuss religion or politics.
Will it last? I hope so. Though I've already heard rumblings about how it will be the long-suffering white male who will decide the final match-up in November, for now, the votes of women are the ones that seem to matter. And that's something we need to celebrate and perpetuate in years - and elections - to come.
