The 2008 "ED" Political Joke: Tee Hee Hee? Or Not PC?

Thursday January 24, 2008
I confess. A male acquaintance sent this to me in an email, and I laughed at it. Out loud.

I don't think it's sexist, but then again, I'm a woman and this is a play on words for a significant problem facing men. If I'm being insensitive, let me know by taking the poll at right.

(But in my defense, let's face it - even kids have heard the term thanks to TV commercials. And it came from a man mature enough to be in the target demographic of these ads. So I think we're in safe territory.)

Here it is:

"Electile" Dysfunction:
The inability to become aroused over any of the choices for president put forth by either party in the 2008 election year.

(2) Pierre Tristam says:

Of course it’s funny (and I say that as a middle-aged man tumescently aware that erectile disasters, as I prefer to call them, is bound to be in his future, I assume because of global warming), because the joke tells a fundamental truth, does so without being mean (either to the erectally or electably dysfunctional), and plays on a problem that, since losing Bob Dole as its spokesman, can use a bit of a humor injection (I mean of course the dismally flaccid state of GOP politics).

(3) Tom Head says:

Bob Dole was definitely an (ahem) stand-up guy, but wouldn’t global cooling be more of a factor in ED?
