Suppose We All Ignored Britney Spears?

Friday January 4, 2008
I'm not being mean. I'm just trying to give the girl space to get her life back in order.

Consider it the media blackout version of "If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all."

Could any of us survive the fishbowl of celebrity in which the way we move, talk, eat, dance, dress, drive, party, raise our kids, cut our hair and wear (or forget to wear) our underwear is under constant scrutiny?

We've all seen how people get a little crazy on reality shows like "Big Brother" or "The Real World" when they're forced to be on display 24/7. It could happen to any of us cursed with too much attention and too little emotional support.

In my worst moments, the last thing I'd want is to be surrounded by people demanding a piece of me. Perhaps that's why her life has become a series of unfortunate events.

If you lived for a decade under the fierce glare of media attention, you too would be more than a little fried.

I agree completely! If people would quit looking at her through a fish bowl she might actually get herself together!

Why? don’t the press talk about the news that they are making by how they cover the news? Oh, they’re special, they are reporters?!?

It’s comparable to watching a pot boil…

Well, the heat is on, and the pot is getting hotter. As we look closely, we see that the paparazzi are really covering this one. Right now, bubbles are appearing in the water… Ladies and gentlemen, it looks like this pot of water is about to boil.
Let’s keep looking,… now, the steam is coming up.
Janice, how would you describe the steam at this point?

Well Dan, as we know, the heat was turned on about 2 minutes ago, and since that time, the bubbles started appearing, and now, we … just a minute, I’m getting reports that … yes, indeed, it looks like the water, which was simmering, just 30 seconds ago, is becoming more excited, and it looks like, it’s about to boil.
Wait a minute Dan, there’s a new development, someone has taken the lid off, the pot, and it looks like a cloud of steam has gone up the exhaust. Well Dan, it looks as though things have cooled of momentarily, but before that, the pot was simmering, and then it looked like it was definitel coming to a boil.
Things have cooled off now, that the cover of the pot has been taken off the top, so let’s go back to you in the main studio.
Thank you Janice.
Here we are ladies and gentlemen, reporting this eminently boiling pot, At one point, we had actually seen bubbles starting, but now, we have reports that in fact, the lid has been taken off, or uncovered, so to speak. Now that is the lid is off, things have cooled down, momentarily. But who’s to say that with the heat still on that things won’t go to a boil again.
We’ll keep you updated, and for other news,…

We have the latest update for the presidential primaries.

Well with this second primary over, it’s clear to say that it’s all over for candidate …..

That’s the way it isn’t, but we sit and listen none-the-less.

I couldn’t agree more. Alot of these celebrities should be given some space in my opinion. So many of them could use the time alone and the right to have others stay out of their “personal bubble”

If only our media gave half as much attention to our elected leaders and their visions for this country as they do to Britney, Lindsay, or Paris, we’d all be better off.
