Diary of a Mad MySpace Mom:
'Lori Drew' Speaks Out About Megan Meier's Suicide
The case came to light last month when a local newspaper, the St. Charles Journal, first printed an account of what actually happened. Megan's story wasn't an affair of the heart gone terribly awry. It was a case of cyberbullying, and the perpetrator wasn't a classmate or friend bent on revenge. It was a 48-year-old woman, the mother of one of Megan's friends, bent on avenging her daughter. The mom posed as a 16-year-old boy on MySpace to gain Megan's trust, intending to hurt her to teach her a lesson.
At first, the St. Charles Journal refused to print the woman's name. But now that she's been outed, and the neighbor who tipped off police has spoken to ABC's Good Morning America, the world knows the MySpace mom is Lori Drew, a friend and neighbor of the Meier family.
But wait...it gets stranger.
Now that prosecutors have decided they won't be pressing charges against Drew, someone claiming to be the aggrieved MySpace mother is using a blog to to tell her side of the story - or so the author says.
In Megan Had It Coming, 'Lori Drew' writes:
It's time I dropped the charade. Yes, I made this blog. Yes, I'm Lori Drew....Now that [the prosecutor] has made public the announcement that there will be no charges filed against me or my family, I feel it is time to speak out about this tragic affair. I cannot count on any media organization to fairly represent my story, as they have grossly misrepresented and sensationalized the story so far. So, I must present my case here, on the blog that has been my only outlet.
The author of the blog created it in mid-November, posing as a fictitious student so she could slam Megan even after her death. But on the morning of December 3, 2007, she revealed her 'true' identity...and as of this writing, the blog is still live and active. It's a train wreck, and reading it may be an admission of the worst voyeuristic tendencies in all of us. But people are reading, commenting, and the person claiming to be Drew is answering back.
Is the blog real, or a hoax? In either case, should this be allowed to happen? If it's real, is she crazy for doing this? Can charges still be pressed if it's determined she's committed a federal crime, as some have suggested? It's obvious there's something terribly wrong with the person writing the blog. And now she's self-destructing for the whole world to view - in her own words.
The question is, will you watch...and read?

“MeganHadItComing” – perhaps another false internet creation. There seems to be a trail of these, in this story. Whoever wrote this particular blog, it reeks of rationalizations which don’t stand up to scrutiny. This whole tragedy tells us about the power of egotism and revenge, and what can happen when people try to “get back,” and do things out of spite. (Ancient Greeks knew all about this – right, Orestes?)
Lori’s original police report is much different than the story she spun weeks later, check TheSmokingGun.com for her original report… her contradictions are lies. Internet harassment is a federal crime, it’s cyber-abuse. There is an investigation pending on the, “She had it coming,” blog and due to the internet outcry, the case was reopened and a civil suit could follow.
Because of this entire event… Lori Drew had to close her advertising coupon business, “Drew Advantage.” Lori’s daughter had to drop out of her current high school and relocate. The father, Curt Drew was fired from his real estate position, Coldwell, and now works for Burlington Coat Factory. The entire town hates them, their home has been vandalized …the fun part, their contact information was posted all over the internet… they cannot leave their homes without being called, “Murderer.”
The best part, the teenager who helped Mrs. Drew, Ashley Grills, is now in a psychiatric ward seeking mental help.
Megan’s story continues to spread, it’s on the international level. Getting justice in this matter seems evident, because this story just has not died.
This is why I will never let my only daughter who is 13 ever near a computer. I have heard way too many bad things about MySpace and this tragic event just put the icing on the cake. My sympathies go out to Megan’s family. Such a shame that an adult has to act like a child. Charges need to be brought against Mrs. Drew and whomever else involved. I know I would in a heartbeat whether friend of the family or not. Friends just don’t do this.
That blog is obviously a hoax, and I hear authorities are looking into whoever it was that created it. Shows the dark side of human nature for sure–
Who’s the real child here!!!
The girl was only 13..A 48 year old woman should have better things to do with her time. I think the 13 year old is better off than this drew lady at this point – Drew has to live with her disturbing acts and knowing the outcome of them for the rest of her sad life…..
The blog is a hoax, which will likely result in legal action.
Have you heard this **** apologize or even show sympathy? No, she’s played the blame game and spouting off the same lines, “I didn’t do it, I was not even home.” Last I checked, you don’t have to be at home to send messages over the internet.
This is what lawmakers are saying about the blog: “we figured it had to be a hoax. But reading it now, we’re not so sure. It has an awful lot of detail and all the defensiveness and sociopathy you’d expect from a woman who would destroy a thirteen-year-old girl and then show no remorse.”
According to a couple of sites I found, the Meganhaditcoming blog isn’t Lori Drews, but that of her daughter Sarah, who started the Josh Evans hoax with Ashley Grills, with the approval and joining in of Lori Drew.
I feel no symphathy for you, Lori Drew. You were cruel to this little girl. You knew you were wrong. This is no way to teach your child how to treat other people. You are evil and you fully deserve everything that happens to you. For you to threaten the Mother and to tell her she should not tell this story, how dare you. You are fully responsible for this childs death. Maybe the cops there aren’t gonna put you away in prison where you belong, but they really should. You owe these People big time. How dare you be so arrogent. I hope you lose your home to foreclosure, I hope you lose everything.
I hope you feel the same agony you have shown to these Parents. You are evil. Get off your high horse and get in the real world and take full responsibility for your evil actions insead of trying to get away with this. Vengence is mine saith the Lord. I sure hope these Parents are there when he does deal out his vengence. You may walk away with the cops on earth, but one day you will stand before you maker and justice will prevail. You are evil. Absolutely no symphathy.
It makes me sick that the Megan Meier story gets so much press. It also makes me nuts that they want to start passing laws to protect kids from internet bullies.
Who is protecting the rest of the kids from the monsters at school? How many kids have committed suicide because they’ve been picked on by classmates? Is anyone prosecuting those who teased the boys responsible for Columbine? Have they passed any laws making it a crime to tease someone so much at school that the person kills a bunch of people and then themselves?
This story is nothing more than a money-maker for the media. Cyber-bullying is new, but bullying is not. If one is a crime, they are both a crime. I don’t see anyone slapping handcuffs on the kids who are responsible for teasing others to death, so it’s time to let this story rest in peace.
the difference between this case of harassment and those done at a school is the age difference the woman who did this Mrs. Drew was old enough to know better but I agree that if we choose to make “bullying a crime on the internet then it should be make a crime in general but think of the implication of this and the impossibility of enforcement
No, the main difference is that cyber-teasing can also have the element of deception as one individual puts on a charade that he/she is someone or something they are not. Very dangerous. Much more so than being “teased” or bullied in public. At least in those instances, you see it coming and know your antagonist. But for somone so young and vulnerable to be lead on, only to have everything come crashing down upon her. Tragic and heartless.
hi,
I’m curious about something… in your article, you wrote, “… internet harassment is a federal crime…” – and I can’t seem to find any place that lists a statute for that offense. If anyone knows of a law stipulating that internet harassment is a federal crime, I’d sure appreciate knowing about it! I can find the code for my state, but not a federal law…
thanks!
I WAS WATCHING GOOD MORNING AMERICA TODAY AND THE VERDICT IS COMING IN TODAY AGAINT LORI DREW. I HOPE SHE DOES RECEIVE JAIL TIME, BUT I DON’T BELIEVE THAT WILL HAPPEN. BUT JUST KNOWING WHO DID THIS TO BEAUTIFUL MEGAN MEIER AND THE WORLD KNOWS IS SOME JUSTICE. LORI WILL NEVER KNOW PEACE FOR WHAT SHE DID. SHE IS AN ACCOMPLICE TO MURDER AND THE WEAPON IS MYSPACE.COM. IF LORI IS NOT REMORSE FOR MURDER AND ASK GOD TO FORGIVE HER, HOW CAN SHE FIND PEACE? MAY MEGAN REST IN PEACE WITH JESUS.
