"Well, it WILL Be Me": The Nov. 26th Katie / Hillary Interview

Wednesday November 28, 2007
If you didn't catch the CBS Evening News on Monday, then you'd better go take a look - but finish reading this first, please.

The sight of CBS anchor Katie Couric going (wo)mano a (wo)mano with presidential candidate Hillary Clinton puts the 'broad' in broadcast.

Couric tempers her pressing questions and power-red suit with her smiley interview style; Clinton talks about being attacked by the other candidates with a non-smiley demeanor. She comes across as strong and confident, but definitely not warm and fuzzy.

Make sure you watch the full clip that runs 3:18, because it puts what CBS calls "Confident Clinton" in context.

If you're a Huffington Post fan and have seen their shortened version, even if you're a Clinton supporter you might find yourself reeling in shock.

Because when Smiley Katie asks, "If it's not you [as the Democratic nominee], how disappointed will you be?" Clinton firmly responds, "Well, it will be me...."

And then - smiling harder than ever - when Couric follows up with "I know that you're confident it's going to be you, but there is the possibility it won't be, and clearly," (Katie waves her hands wildly at this point as if it's all too much and she'd like to fly right outta there) "you've considered the possibility?" and Clinton calmly and almost coldly responds, "No, I haven't...." unless you see the longer version and hear her full explanation, you're not going to like Clinton very much.

I've seen both, and in the interest of full disclosure, although I might be somewhat prejudiced toward this particular Huffington Post blog entry (because they linked to my blog with fellow glass ceiling breaker) I have to be honest -their 20-second clip shows us the very worst of Hillary out of context.

But I digress. Don't take my word for it. You be the judge and see both.

Okay, I'm done. Lecture over. You're excused. Now go and click through.
