Women Endure Obscenities & Harassment at Jets Games
Three deep in some areas, they whistled and jumped up and down. Then they began an obscenity-laced chant, demanding that the few women in the gathering expose their breasts.Picker describes how security guards, standing near the bottom of the ramp, do nothing. One told Picker that free speech laws prohibit then from intervening, but Picker noted that "when a reporter tried to interview two security guards after halftime, he was detained in a holding room, threatened with arrest and asked to hand over his tape recorder."When one woman appeared to be on the verge of obliging, the hooting and hollering intensified. But then she walked away, and plastic beer bottles and spit went flying. Boos swept through the crowd of unsatisfied men.
The authorities know what's going on. Patrick C. Aramini, a VP with the New Jersey Sports and Exhibition Authority which oversees security during the games, commented, “The problem is, you got to watch four or five hundred people....What do we do, arrest everybody that starts chanting?”
The saddest part of this whole sordid tale? The women who give the guys exactly what they want:
“I don’t care,” Rivera said when told that video clips of previous incidents, taken on cellphones, ended up online. “I love my body and I like what I have, so let everybody share it.”Denisse Rivera, a 23-year-old from the Bronx, was on a first date Sunday. When she arrived at the crowd at Gate D, several men pointed at her, signaling men at all levels to chant in her direction. After a brief moment of hesitation, she flashed them. Then she took a bow.
After that stunt, I bet Denisse didn't get a second date...at least, not with the guy who brought her.
So if we play the blame game, who gets the gold star for most debauched: the guys who participate, the women who respond, the security guards who stand idly by, or the managers who turn a blind eye?

That women oblige these goons is the very sadest aspect of this story. If no one did, they would go away. However, it only takes just one woman to keep those overly testosterone loaded jerks hooting and hawlering. That is the second aspect that is so disappointing about this story, the lack of respect and the tolerance of this by the facility administration. I am not a fan of organized sports, this illustrates further reason to avoid that arena.
This article is very informative and good. I really think it could be better for this article, and other articles, to have pictures to lively illustrate the matters.
What makes it so hard for women to be strong against male stupidity is the fact that men control so many aspects of society, public opinion and financial opportunity. Women fold because of the overwhelming control that men still have over them and because other women behave like undignified jackals…just happy to get whatever crumbs are tossed their way!
