Anita Hill & Clarence Thomas - Poster Couple for Sexual Harrassment

Thursday October 4, 2007
Clarence Thomas just couldn't let sleeping dogs lie. And now Washington wags are weighing in on the latest volleys back and forth in yet another round of "Battlefield:Supreme Court". Thomas rose to the position of Supreme Court Judge despite former colleague Anita Hill's testimony before a Senate panel that Thomas had sexually harassed her when he was her boss in the early 1980s.

So if the male Senators who heard her story didn't believe her, and Thomas got the job after all, then why is he still so angry? Because it's obviously anger that fuels his recollections of her in his recently published memoir, My Grandfather's Son.

After a period of quiet reflection, Anita Hill came out swinging in an op-ed piece earlier this week in the New York Times. It's an unresolved "he said, she said" even after all these years.

Question is, would the outcome be any different if this happened today? Or did both have to risk their good names and reputations in order to begin the dialogue that would lead to change in the workplace?

Although they could never have envisioned the outcome, when Clarence met Anita, their relationship would eventually be the talk of the nation.
